Peter’s Blog @Bryant and Tuck Studios When It Comes To the Audition….. “Talent Isn’t Everything!” You hear, “gotta have talent to be an actor” about as much as “hello” and “good bye.” The benefit of talent is a valid one…..Especially in the dreaded…. AUDITION CHAMBER. Being charismatic, uninhibited, possessing good timing, retaining dialogue, having a good voice, being attractive, having “it”……some or all of these qualities I’m sure would make the top ten list of at least some of the powers that be who grace the “thrones” behind that long “banquet table.” But there is something even more important than talent that the directors and producers are looking for. In some instances, they are unaware they are looking for it. But when an actor possesses it, the auditors immediately love what they’re watching, even if they don’t know why. It is….the actor’s ability to interpret, and then execute the specifics of the material. The person or persons behind the table know the trajectory and logistics of their story in detail. If you, the actor, can come in the room with a good understanding of these elements, it will give you a tremendous advantage. As an actor who’s lucky enough to say he’s been in the game a while, more often than not – when I’ve landed a role and been in conversation with the director about why I got the part or why someone else in the cast got their role, or as a teacher when some scenes work exponentially better than others – it always comes down to what the actor is doing, scene to scene, in...

It’s April and the studio is in full swing. Spring has an exciting “out with the old, in with the new” feeling as the weather starts to change and the trees blossom. However, it can also become quickly overwhelming, as we inundate ourselves with high expectations for the season to come. Just remember to continue putting one foot in front of the other when those goals we set seem either impossible or incredibly far away. Take it one week, one day and one hour at a time. You’ll be surprised how far you can get one step at a time. Our Tuesday evening Audition class is up and running with Peter at the helm, and we are still offering our $100/4 class deal for new students. We know one of the stresses of spring can be financial, and we don’t want your training expenses to be a source of that worry. Looking forward to seeing you in...

We often hear “be yourself” from directors and coaches, but it often doesn’t sink in. We are trying to “get in character”, “step outside of our comfort zone”. What if we are the character? This is a great article reminding us that each and every one of us is a fully realized, fascinating character. More so than anyone written onto a page. Let’s use it! You’ve Already Gotten the Role of Your Lifetime By Rebecca Strassberg What if you were given the role of a lifetime? A character that’s beautiful and dangerous and mysterious and exciting and complicated and messed up and Divinity expressed in tangible form and spectacular and empathetic and scary and…well, human? I asked an actress this and she said, “I’d be thrilled beyond belief…and also a little scared.” Do you know what that role is? It’s your life. The role of a lifetime is you. Why are we looking for it in another person or character or relationship when it’s really about bringing all of your stuff to a role? Your stuff becomes the experience. There will never be another “you” from now until the end of time in perpetuity. It’s mind-boggling to realize that since the earth began some 4.5 billion years ago, there has never been another “you” ever created. There’s never even been someone remotely like you walking this planet. Ever. That makes your lifetime a wonderful gift in itself. You’re all you’ve got. And all you’ll ever be is already contained within yourself. Seek it there, and realize that all parts of yourself are what make you...

As an actor, one’s training is really never over. In most other careers it is part of your job – part of your paid job – to put in research and development. For a performer, this would include both ongoing training, as well as seeing shows, going to concerts, watching films. Unfortunately, this generally comes out of our own under-paid pockets, so we are not always able or willing to put in as much time as might be necessary to stay on top of our game. It is invaluable to put oneself in front of a camera as much as possible. At Bryant and Tuck Studios, we’ve worked to keep classes affordable and engaging. There is a class for all levels, the instructors treat each student as individual, and work to give appropriate and specific feed back. STUDIO NEWS We’re excited to announce a NEW TUESDAY AUDITION CLASS. Starting in February, Peter Bryant will be teaching an on-camera audition class preparing students for the many scenarios they may face in the audition room. Peter is also offering a FIRST-TIME STUDENT INTRO RATE of $100/4 class session with the option to “mix and match” . Recent Student Feedback: “I am so grateful to Peter Bryant for being my coach and mentor. He is a passionate teacher who cares deeply about each of his students. In his class, he offers a safe place to explore many different characters, and gently guides you towards breaking through your emotional blocks. What I love most is the genuinely supportive community of students at his studio; I believe that is credited to Peter’s example as a highly...
